American Idol #7 – Predictions sure to go wrong

By Brad on

Not much I can say about my 1-5 track record as far as predicting who will go home tonight on American Idol, except that I suck. I just. plain. suck. So here we go!

american idol - parisGoodbye, Paris…..again. I know I voted you off already, but now I really, really mean it. Sorry.

Getting up is back, Latest News, etc.

By Brad on

Sharp-eyed Breathingfire.com readers will have noticed that, despite yesterday being a weekday, the GUASAMW meter did not budge. Nope, not one little pixel.

Why?

Well because I failed to get up at the prescribed time of 7am. This was caused by a terrible night of sleeplessness (that…IS…a word…..right?), laziness and utter, utter shame in one’s self.

BUT, here, today, we’re back on track! GUASAMW lives again! We got up at seven am and boy, we’re not feeling all that bad. A good night’s sleep helped sponser our wake, along with the determination that I just could not let my readers down again.

Anyways, at least this allows GUASAMW to extend to the latter part of the week, taking us all the way up to Friday, when I leave with Adam to go see Ed, so we can move all of his, Susanne’s, Ethan’s and Miles’ stuff to Michigan in what I like to call “The Return of the Tappans.

Besides that, we’ll be tinkering with some other things around Breathingfire.com here shortly. I’m actually reading a book, entitled “The Da Vinci Code”, and I’m actually interested in it, and I actually want to sit down and read more of it! So I’ll probably stick a progress bar on here somewhere to show everyone where I’m at, though I don’t know why I think anyone would be interested in that.

AND, after that I’ll try to get some reviews up in this piece. But, Ryanleigh has some things on the table at the moment which might steal away my development time. Things like websites and SEO and charitable dealings, not to mention extracurriculars like girlfriends, Pistons games, trips to Wisconsin, etc.

But, like always, keep an eye out.

2006 NBA Playoffs Round 1, Game 1 – Pistons win

By Brad on

The Detroit Pistons pulled off a win in game 1, along with virtually every other favorite going into round one. Hopefully things will go that smoothly (and without any more injuries) throughout the series.

I still want to see Sacramento give the Spurs a series though, hopefully that first game was a fluke…

GUASAMW Report

By Brad on

Well, we’re past the half-way point in “Get Up At Seven AM Week”, and so far so good. I’ve gotten up each morning at 7am (barring Thursday morning when I turned off my alarm and then got back into bed until 7:30, shame on me) and stayed up.

It’s led to increased productivity at work and at home. It’s definitely given me more time in the day, and I haven’t felt too dead-tired, so that’s good.

GUASAMW (pronounced ‘gwah-sam-wuh’) continues next through Wednesday, where I will re-evaluate and see if I want to continue the event.

Detroit Pistons NBA Playoffs Countdown

By Brad on

For the last two years I’ve wanted to display some sort of countdown on here, similar to the one that the Detroit Pistons have on their scorer’s table when they play in the playoffs.

There are the numbers 16-1, representing the number of games the Pistons have to win in order to reach the NBA championship. After each win, the Pistons spray paint an X over the number to cross it off.

You can find one on Pistons.com, but I wanted to make one for here, so I am. That’s my obligatory explanation post.

NBA Playoffs 2006: Pistons vs. Bucks

By Brad on

So Detroit gets Milwaukee in the opening round. Should be interesting. The season games went to two overtimes, a rout, and a Milwaukee win at the end over the Detroit bench.

Detroit should be facing Washington in the second round, I say. Lebron might be able to pull out some miracles, but I think the Wizards are more experienced and will play better playoff basketball.

Here’s the updated NBA Playoffs 2006 bracket

American Idol #6 – Goodbye Elliott, goodbye

By Brad on

It’s that time of the week again, time to say goodbye to another American Idol contestant! And the winner loser is…..

ElliotSorry Elliott. You’re a good guy, and you deserve better than Ace or Catherine or Kellie. Unfortunately I think that America finds Kellie so stupidly cute that they are brainwashed into voting for her and making her the next American Idol. Oh well, there’s always next season.

GUASAMW Day 1

By Brad on

So far we’re doing good with GUASAMW. Got up at exactly seven AM this morning (with help from an alarm, of course), showered, got ready, and now I’m at work ready to get some stuff done.

I understand that many people get up at seven or before, just because that’s what they have to do. But what about when it’s not what you have to do? When there’s no reason that you have to be up(right away, at least) at a certain time? What makes you get up? I’m trying to find my reason.

So far we’re 14% of the way there. I’m taking it one day at a time. For some reason I’m bad with long term goals like these. I’m trying to get better.

Viva La GUASAMW!

Welcome to GUASAMW (Get Up At Seven AM Week)

By Brad on

Every once in a while I look at my life and I says to myself “Self, lets change some things around and see what happens.” Case in point, Shan and I have been celebrating “No Pop Month” for the last 17 days and counting. For the entire month of April, we are not consuming one drop of soda, resorting instead to a regular mix of water, lemonade, tea, beer, wine and milk. I like it. It’s saved us money on occasion, and I’m sure it’s saved our teeth from just that much more rotting. So sometimes it’s good to shake things up a little.

So I’m going to shake things up a little moer in an experiment I like to call GUASAMW, or “Get Up At Seven AM Week!”

I work hourly at my job so I’m not really tied to an 8-5 schedule, and Fridays are usually reserved for my Ryanleigh Web Design work. Which means that I’m not up at the crack of dawn each morning, let’s say that. But this usually turns into losing time at the end of the day, and pissing off Shannon by staying in bed when she gets up or by doing web stuff at night.

So to combat all of that, I’ll be getting up at 7am for the next week. Well, the next business-week, anyways. See I’m taking it slow, and making sure I at least get up at 7am on the weekdays, and then I can reward myself on the weekends with a sleep-in. So Tuesday through Friday, and then Monday through Wednesday I’ll be getting up at 7am, right along with the chickens!

At the bottom of this very page you will see a progress meter. I’ll update it each day I have succesfully gotten up, with 100% meaning a full seven days worth of early mornin’ risin’. (It also gives me a chance to try out the CSS Bar Graph technique, I love it!)

So there it is. Look for an update tomorrow morning!
