Life alone
I spent my first day in my new apartment all alone today. Highlights:
- I’m used to not having a screen on the door to the porch. Despite opening the screen to step out on to the porch, I completely forgot it was closed and walked into the screen on the way back in. If I had never felt complete embarassment before, I can’t say that now.
- Tonight I had a can of corn and some applesauce for dinner. Why? No pots, pans, dishware or silverware. I have one bowl and one spoon that I grabbed from Shannon’s until I get the rest of my stuff from there. At least I was able to wash it down with fun, exciting… water.
- I got all my stuff put away in record time. I don’t have as much room here as in Shannon’s apartment, but I was able to stick stuff in places where it is still not cluttered or unorganized. Three plastic totes of CRAP are sitting in the garage, though.
- The first night’s sleep was made better by the new sheets my mom got for me. Thanks mom.
- My printer is in the kitchen. Permanently.
- I’m a weather-watcher and my apartment faces east. Not a good combination.
- My cable was hooked up today and as soon as the guy left the box decided to stop working. Buttons and all. That’s ok, I unhooked it and just run everything through the TV. Digital cable is overrated.
Those are the major highlights of the first day. Who knows what day 2 will bring?
Why oh why wasn’t I there to witness you walking into the screen. That would have my day. My week even!
This east-facing apartment is going to be a major problem. You should make “faces west” a requirement when apartment shopping.
Yeah, the walking into the screen was not fun. It actually hurt, because I was walking full-speed. I’m surprised (and grateful) that I didn’t just rip right through.
I’m actually liking the east-facing apartment so far. A few drawbacks include the weather thing and no nice sunsets. But I like how there’s no cooking, stinging sun in the afternoon so I can open up my windows and not have the shades pulled.
