Blogging Boulder – Sunday and Monday

For my last full day in Boulder, CO my cousin Bart and I headed out to his mountain cabin to spend the day there. The weather began cloudy and rainy, and it even hailed on us as we stopped for lunch at a Mexican joint on the way up. Later I learned that this system of hail was the same that produced tornados about 10 miles away from Boulder! Yikes.

At the cabin Bart did a little a bit of landscaping and I helped him gather some rocks from the hill to make some walking paths and borders around the cabin. This made both of our backs hurt so we didn’t do this for long.

After some other quick chores we took off to the west to hike down another trail that Bart usually mountain bikes. This trail started out clear for the most part, but after a while we reached a point where we were bushwhacking most of the way. But we trudged through and tried to establish a new path. We came up on a rock wall near some water that Bart was fairly certain was home to a bear since he saw some bear tracks near there on an earlier visit. We were yelling and making noise to alert them to our presence but luckily(?) we did not come across any. No mountain lions this time either, but we did see some big ol’ mule deer. There was a very cool mining cave that we explored as well.

After that we returned to town and hit up the hot tub one last time. About half of the people I met in the tub were from Michigan, which was strange.

Monday was the trip home which went fairly smoothly. All in all it was a great trip and I’d like to go back to Boulder soon. Perhaps to live there? I’m not sure, but I liked it enough where I would enjoy it.
